| Cuba is a cigar aficionado's paradise... Havana has been locked in a time warp since the revolution in 1959. This is most noticeably symbolised in the stunning array of 1950s-style vintage American automobiles, which - thanks to the loving attention and constant tinkering of their local owners - still chug along the city streets and boulevards!
The province of Pinar del Rio to the west of Havana offers a wonderfully different experience from that found at the beach resorts. This is where Cuba's many tobacco and coffee plantations are clustered to benefit from the rich and fertile soil. A picturesque setting, with beautiful rivers and natural springs, the area is under conservation as an ecological biosphere. Largely untapped by tourism, the towns and villages along the undulating landscape retain all the charm of the classic 1950s time warp, with their horse-and-cart traffic and thatched-roof barns dotting the landscape. The population is devoted largely to the production of tobacco and it is said that the leaves rolled here account for the very best Cuban cigars. This is the place to visit a cigar factory!
