H. UPMANN
H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands, dating back to the 1840s. It was started when Herman Upmann quit his job as a banker in the early 1840’s and went about opening up a branch office in Havana. Upmann quickly realised that he could begin a commercial endeavour in the industry and in 1844 he made the bold investment of a cigar factory and the H. Upmann brand was officially launched.
Later on in 1922, both the Upmann bank and the cigar business went bankrupt and they had to sell up to J. Frankau & Co.. This British firm continued the production of the cigars up until 1935 at which point the brand was sold on again to the recently established Menendez y Garcia Co., the makers of the famous Montecristo cigar. The new owners continued the production of H. Upmann cigars up until the nationalisation of the tobacco industry after the Cuban Revolution.
H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone. All H. Upmann sizes are ‘trip larga, totalmente a mano’—long filler, totally handmade.
The brand's labelled boxes contain gold medals from eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century.
CONNOISSEUR A
Connossieur is a historic Linea within the H.Upmann brand, whose most relevant size was very much appreciated. This Linea was updated with the Connossieur A, a trendy vitola that incorporated the Connossieur exclusive ring for the first time, enhancing the image of H.Upmann in the 21st century.
Connossieur A, is aimed exclusively at Habanos Specialists and La Casa del Habano franchise stores.
Connossieur A is a Genios. The size selected is highly appreciated by smokers who now have the opportunity to enjoy heavy ring gauge Habanos within the H.Upmann brand with its classic flavour and aroma.
For those of you reaching for the dictionary for the spelling of “Connoisseur” (or typing it into Google as is probably more the case these days), your suspicions will indeed be confirmed. The small error on the box, band and ribbon has been noted and will be rectified by Habanos S.A. on future production runs. This surely will make the current batch with the incorrect version somewhat of a valuable collector’s item.

"The draw of this light brown cigar is a bit thin but still imparts a smoke that begins floral and tea-like before showing some tangy cedar and a bit of dried fruit. The burn is fairly even throughout..."
