Created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro, Cohiba cigars were first made in secrecy at the now-famous El Laguito factory in Havana. Initially reserved exclusively for diplomats and foreign dignitaries, they became available to the public in 1982, quickly earning their reputation as the world’s most prestigious cigars.

The name Cohiba originates from the ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves Columbus saw smoked by Cuba’s indigenous people — the earliest form of a Habano.

Cohiba cigars use only the “selection of the selection” from the finest Vegas de Primera plantations in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis within the Vuelta Abajo region. The filler leaves (seco, ligero, and the rare medio tiempo) undergo a unique third fermentation in wooden barrels, a process exclusive to Cohiba that imparts unrivalled smoothness and depth of flavour.
