When James Rykers Freeman opened his first factory in Cardiff in 1895, cigar production was entirely by hand — from sizing and blending to rolling the final wrapper leaf. After joining the Gallagher Group in 1947, the company continued to innovate and later redefined the UK cigar market with the creation of Hamlet in 1964.

Today, Charatan cigars are produced by J. Cortes in Belgium, maintaining the same dedication to excellence. Rolled with traditional care and precision, each cigarillo reflects the brand’s focus on leaf quality, blend consistency, and refined flavour.

The unique Dutch Blend combines tobacco from Cuba (spice), Java (richness), Maduro Brazil (mellowness), and Sumatra (smoothness), often blending up to 15–20 selected varieties. Pre-cut for convenience, these cigarillos light easily and can be enjoyed straight from the box.
