Originally created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro, Cohiba cigars were hand-rolled exclusively at the world-renowned El Laguito factory in Havana. For many years, these cigars were produced solely for Cuban dignitaries and visiting diplomats. In 1982, Cohiba was released to the public in limited quantities, immediately establishing itself as the flagship brand of Habanos and a symbol of ultimate cigar craftsmanship.

The name Cohiba is derived from an ancient Taino Indian word, referring to the bundles of tobacco leaves that Columbus observed being smoked by Cuba’s native people – the earliest known form of the Habano. This historical connection remains at the heart of Cohiba’s identity.

Every Cohiba Siglo II is hand-crafted using tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo region’s most prestigious Vegas de Primera plantations, located in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis. Only the finest leaves are selected for Cohiba, representing the top tier of Cuba’s harvest. Unique to Cohiba, up to three of the filler leaves – seco, ligero, and the rare medio tiempo – undergo an additional fermentation in wooden barrels, a process exclusive to the brand. This method refines the tobacco’s texture, enriches aroma, and enhances the cigar’s smooth, complex flavour.
