Montecristo Cigars are the best-known and most appreciated Cuban cigars worldwide, often considered the benchmark by which other Habanos cigars are judged. Founded in 1935, the brand takes its name from the hero of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo—a favourite story read aloud by the Lector to Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory.
The original Montecristo cigar range featured just five numbered vitolas (Montecristo No.1 to No.5). Today, the brand offers a wide variety of vitolas to suit every cigar aficionado, from newcomers to seasoned enthusiasts.
In 2004, Montecristo introduced the Edmundo—a 52-ring gauge cigar created in response to the growing demand for heavier formats. The shorter Petit Edmundo followed in 2006. Both take their name from Edmundo Dantès, the central character in Dumas’ novel.
In 2009, the brand launched the Montecristo Open Series, with four lighter-flavoured cigars crafted for a new generation of smokers who enjoy cigars during outdoor pursuits.
Every Montecristo Cuban cigar is hand-rolled using only the finest filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba—renowned for producing the world’s best tobacco.
