Oliva Cigars – A Legacy of Passion & Craftsmanship Since 1886

The story of Oliva Cigars begins in 1886, when Melanio Oliva cultivated his first crop in Pinar del Río, Cuba. After pausing to fight in Cuba’s War of Independence, Melanio returned to tobacco farming, passing on his passion to future generations. By the 1920s, his son Facundo Oliva continued the family’s legacy, nurturing a tradition that would endure for decades.

As Cuba’s political landscape shifted, Facundo’s son Gilberto Oliva transitioned from growing to brokering tobacco, travelling across Honduras, Panama, Mexico, and the Philippines in search of the perfect conditions to recreate Cuba’s renowned tobacco character. His journey ultimately led him to Nicaragua, where the Oliva family permanently settled and thrived.

Today, the Oliva family is the second-largest grower of Cuban-seed tobacco in Nicaragua, supplying premium leaf to some of the world’s most celebrated blends. Known for traditional curing, blending, and rolling techniques, Oliva cigarsare praised for their exceptional craftsmanship, consistency, and refined flavour. This dedication has earned them worldwide acclaim, including Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year 2014 for the Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado.

From Cuba to Nicaragua, the Oliva legacy is one of passion, resilience, and uncompromising quality—qualities that continue to make them one of the world’s most respected cigar families.
