Romeo y Julieta Cigars

Cigar strength: medium

Named after Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, Romeo y Julieta cigars were first established in 1875 and quickly became one of the most celebrated Cuban cigar brands. Under the leadership of Don ‘Pepín’ Rodríguez in the early 20th century, the brand rose to international fame. Rodríguez was among the first to recognise the promotional power of the cigar band, using no fewer than 20,000 different designs during his tenure.

Perhaps the most famous devotee of Romeo y Julieta was Winston Churchill. After his visit to Havana in 1946, his name was immortalised not only on a cigar band but also in the brand’s most iconic size: the Romeo y Julieta Churchill. This vitola remains one of the most recognisable and sought-after Cuban cigars in the world.

The 21st century introduced two celebrated additions to the Churchill line:

  • Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills – launched in 2006, a Robusto cigar that filled an important gap in the range.

  • Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills – unveiled at the 12th Festival del Habano in 2010, with a 55 ring gauge to satisfy the growing demand for wider vitolas.

Every Romeo y Julieta Cuban cigar is crafted with premium filler and binder tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region, delivering a balanced, medium-bodied profile that appeals to both newcomers and seasoned smokers. With one of the widest ranges of Tripa Larga, Totalmente a Mano (long filler, totally handmade) vitolas available in any Habano brand, Romeo y Julieta continues to stand as a timeless symbol of Cuban cigar excellence.
